Rock-A-Bye-Baby

There has been radio silence here at aMaison because we have been busy preparing for the arrival of our third family member! Our son arrived last week, and we're having so much fun getting to know each other.

Of course being a new baby, he has spent much of his time sleeping. Besides his room, he enjoys sleeping almost anywhere -- his bouncy seat, the sofa, his swing, anyone's arms. One special place is the cradle my parents dug out of their attic and brought to our home a couple weeks ago. We put it in our room for those fussy times when in the middle of the night he needs to be rocked back to sleep.

Although I don't know much of the cradle's provenance, I do know this: we know its history in the family goes back to my grandfather, who was born in 1901! Both my brother and I slept in the cradle, as well as some of our cousins and second cousins. I'm amazed at the beautiful shape it's still in today, proving it is a special piece that has been well cared for for over a century!

The cradle sits next to my grandmother's chair, so in a way (as cheesy as it sounds) I like the thought that they are my grandparents are reunited in our room, and I am reminded of them each day.
